Alice and the Library Tree is an interactive musical performance for little ones and their grown ups by children's opera company B'Opera. In it they explore the wonderful seeds of creativity and resilience that books and stories can sow. Alice, an avid reader, fights to reopen her beloved library after the evil Queen of Hearts condemns the building and takes away the only key. From choice of music (Handel, Mozart, Beethoven, and Wagner amongst others), the inventive costumes and set, to length of show, it's the perfect introduction to opera and theatre for the newest and youngest of audience members!
Alice and the Library Tree was performed on the main stage at Sutton Coldfield's 'Concerts in the Park' 2019 alongside the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, Birmingham Royal Ballet and other big acts from Rock Choir to theatre and dance academies.
This show was originally commissioned by FOLIO Sutton Coldfield for performances in the children's library. This worked beautifully and was a fantastic and innovative use of the space to bring something new to the library. It has since been performed in children's centres, art galleries and churches, all with great success. It would work perfectly in schools too!
The show works well on big outdoor festival stages and more intimate outdoor settings alike. We have tested it out on a big stage, now we are looking for opportunities to take Alice on new adventures ...!
