Alice and the Library Tree
Commissioned by FOLIO Sutton Coldfield and funded by Arts Council England, Alice and the Library Tree has wowed audiences from churches, libraries and childrens centres, to Walsall New Art Gallery, Birmingham Hippodrome, and a proms-style Concerts in the Park performance.
The Show
Alice and the Library Tree is an interactive musical performance for little ones and their families (perfect for 0-8 year olds) by children's opera company B'Opera. When her library tree is shut down, problem-solving Alice finds a way to reopen it, drawing on the wisdom she has learned from books and stories. It's the perfect introduction to opera and theatre for our newest and youngest audience members.
"This is the perfect introduction to the arts and further solidifies how important it is for children to be exposed to music and theatre from a young age."

Outdoor Performances
Alice and the Library Tree was performed on the main stage at Sutton Coldfield's Concerts in the Park 2019 alongside the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra.
Indoor Performances
Originally commissioned by FOLIO Sutton Coldfield for performances in a small children's library. Alice has since been adapted for churches, children's centres, Walsall New Art Gallery, and Birmingham Hippodrome. Walkabout elements are creatively re-desgined to fit the available space.
Audience Feedback
Why not follow the characters through enchanting tunnels, join in with the singing, be free to take part in the story, and even help to decorate the props?
Behind the Arras
This really is a fantastic show giving an incredibly charming performance whilst highlighting the wonder of libraries and the huge curiosity that they can bring. It is a perfect introduction both to opera and theatre for children aged 0 – 8 (and their parents, of course!)
